What have we been doing to bring forth the beginnings we hope for? Our vision is to foster and encourage ministry striving for justice and peace among all people. This past year we have offered a variety of ideas in our blog, opportunities to pray in community, and opportunities to learn and process that learning in community. With that preparation, what is being born for 2025 that will bring the kingdom of God closer? What energizes us to do the work as we face new challenges in coming years? My heart points to beginning with clarity about who we are, whose we are, and what that invites us to do.
We may articulate the answers to the clarity question differently but I hope that in our big tent Episcopal church we can all agree that we are followers of Jesus and his teaching; we belong to God; and God invites us to love Godself above all else; to love ourselves; and to love all our neighbors as ourselves. I believe that ‘neighbors’ includes all Creation.
We have challenges before us as we experience a significant change in governance. Coming into the changes with our clarity we are able to be a loving presence to all whom we encounter and continue to do the work we have begun. Work we discern to be life giving for all of us.
Who is “we”? Our committee is led by the Rev. Caroline Hall. Others are Rosemarie Axton, Rev. Mary Blessing, Dcn. Kathey Crowe, Bill Shreve, Lucy Simola, Bill Steigelmann, and me. We meet once a month. If you are interested in joining the Committee, please contact the Rev. Caroline Hall at revcaromail@gmail.com. You don’t have to commit to being a committee member to engage with us. Let us know what is on your mind by commenting on our blog or Facebook page. And of course, join us when we offer programs.
We’re well on our way with planning our offerings for 2025 and if you want to see what we did this year, check out the committee’s report at our Diocesan Convention: https://www.realepiscopal.org/diocesan-life/social-justice-committee/.
We wish you a blessed Christmas and a just 2025.
